Feeling bored, sick, grumpy and mean

It’s almost exam time… Guess what that means?

That’s right, I’m sort of falling sick again.

This time I’ve come down with a cold or something like that… Sneezing a lot, watery eyes, you know that kind of thing. I don’t know if it’s lack of sleep, nutrition or water or a combination. My head just feels stuffy.

My second class of the day was really boring. I kept staring out of the window at the nice scenery outside, resisting the urge to run out of the classroom towards fresh air and freedom. It didn’t help that that particular lecturer isn’t exactly on my list of favourites. Not that I have anything much against him but he has a way of making everything pretty long-winded. Even just now, I was the last one to leave (I pack really slowly) and was thus trapped in the room in a never-ending friendly conversation with him. He filtered out any of my sentences which had the word “goodbye” in them (and believe me, there were many) and continued on as if we were best friends catching up after a long absence, although the only real topic he was discussing was how well I thought I could fare in the coming exams.

In the end I escaped by inching towards the door step by step and slipping out with a loud “goodbye!” while he was distracted mid-sentence (by then, I couldn’t even tell what he was talking about anymore). I could tell because his eyes lost focus for that single second, in which I imagine he was forming many more sentences in his mind that were linked with the extremely relevant fact that they were all in the English language. That will teach me to pack my bag more quickly in future.

So I ended up here, sitting in the library. Not many people are bothering to keep their volume down… Or maybe I’m just hearing things a little louder, that’s what happens when you’re sick, right?

I just want to go home and complete my tutorials but I still have to go to an important meeting for my Poly Forum group later. So TEBS, you can tell that it’s not that fun. They’ve probably changed it a lot since your time (and considering the age gap between us, it’s very likely).

Dammit. I want the noisy group next to me to shut up but it seems highly unlikely since they’re discussing their project. I think I’m going to head out of here now.

Riceballs and hats

I spent Saturday hanging out with some fun people, Marian, AJ, Elly and Ming Yang.

We kept going back and forth from Bugis Street to Topshop. I finally found a nice white bag at Bugis Street that can be both formal and casual. The price was a steal too, around $20 only! I love getting expensive-looking things for cheap… (plus my brother paid me back for it since he owed me a birthday present, muahaha).

There was this rude salesperson at the Bugis Topshop. We were merely standing together (thus blocking her way) and she said “excuse me” in a very snappy way. Who cares if she’s having a bad day or whatever was making her have an attitude, her job is to keep the potential customers happy and that’s already very basic courtesy she was lacking. Not to mention it wasn’t the only path she could have walked. Feeling annoyed, we made a few mean comments about it when she was in hearing range and left the store pretty soon after.

Marian and Elly left while the rest of us headed to Yoshinoya for dinner. Ever since attending the Japanese International School’s Summer Festival a few years ago, I’ve been craving onigiri (Japanese riceballs) so I decided to try the tuna mayo onigiri at Yoshinoya. It totally sucked. For $1, they gave me something pathetically small, dry and tasteless. I could have made a better sandwich with that money.

What a good onigiri should look like
What good onigiri should look like.
The one I bought did not look like that.

We went to Topman (I can’t remember which branch) to find new clothes for Ming Yang. They were having their end-season sale so almost everything was on discount. I spotted a nice hat (it reminded us of something Christina Aguilera would wear) but the sizes that were left were too large for me. I guess I’ll have to look for something similar elsewhere. It just feels like a wasted opportunity since it was at half-price, sigh. If you can find a nice newsboy hat at a good price, let me know!

So that was a pretty nice day overall… Window-shopping isn’t that bad after all.

Hey all, please help my friend out. He submitted a way cool design for the NETS CashCard design contest. I really think it deserves to win, I mean it’s a much better design than the “My Cousin And Me” card, which currently has one of the highest number of votes.

Here’s what he sent to my email:

Att: My friends.

I need your full support by voting for me before 30 July 2007.

Follow this 3 steps.

Thank Q so much for your support!!!

Ramzee

If you’re not sure which one it is, it’s the 3rd one in the first row on the first page. A copy of what it looks like is below:

Ramzee's design - Vote for it!

You can vote 5 times per IP address, so it would be a better idea to do this from somewhere other than the school network.

Thanks for the help!

TEBS may be in a different continent now, but she has a knack for finding things out. She alerted me to this incident by email.

Long story short, the SAF (Singapore Armed Forces) is being lenient and inconsistent about discipline. One guy decided to bring some attention to this problem by writing a lengthy but well-written letter to a few hundred people. He was reprimanded for it by SAF but the damage had already been done. The letter made itself to the internet and is (as you can see) circulating around Singapore and beyond.

The guy who wrote it happens to be the son of the Prime Minister of Singapore. Some people are wondering if there would be so much fuss had the writer been some random ordinary citizen. After all, he can’t be the first to have noticed this.

Internet buzz over PM Lee’s son

One day after it emerged that the Prime Minister’s son had been reprimanded for firing an email to the SAF’s top brass to complain about a fellow officer, the Internet is abuzz over the issue of whistle-blowing.

Busy weekend

Friday, 13 July 2007

Posted: 02:34 hours (GMT+8)

Tomorrow (well, later today technically), I’ll be busy with the preparations for this weekend’s SP Chess Open 2007.

Then, instead of trying to rush down to my Poly Forum meeting (already told them I couldn’t make it)… I’m heading down to Zouk for the “Oops!” launch party!  Free entry for people from my school, yay. Plus a few of my friends were asked to DJ (though not as official representatives of the club). There’s no way I’d miss this! I’ve already planned what to wear, although it’ll be a heck of a lot of stuff to bring considering I’m staying overnight in school tomorrow.

AJ and Marian are going to help with the preparations so we can get it done sooner. So cool of them, agreeing to sweat it out a little and potentially get to the party late just so Francine and I can get there earlier. It’s nice to have friends like that. I guess that kind of loyalty is what prevents me from leaving Francine to do everything herself while I flee to the club. It doesn’t make much sense from a practical standpoint but whatcha gonna do about it, it’s just the way we are.

We are very weird people, heh. I guess that’s why we’re all friends.

I’m way excited about tomorrow. I heard our instructor is nervous to death for them, haha. I’m very glad to see them take such a big step. I wish that there had been more time for them to practise though, this event was really sudden. I can’t really go into the details here.

Anyway, I’ve got pics for the DJ intro workshop and the Open House done. I’ve been asked to delay mass circulation of them until the AGM is over. Oh well, sorry anyone who was waiting for them. They will get sent around as soon as it’s over. Got a couple funny vids too, hehe. I doubt I’m allowed to post up the cool vids I got of Rattle, too bad about that.

Gotta pack for tomorrow… Then head to sleep. Whatever little of it I can catch now.

Happy

Sunday, 8 July 2007

Wow, I’ve been really busy this past week.

Spent the first half of the week preparing for two events.

First up was the SPDJ Intro Workshop for our new members. It’s sort of considered the first lesson for them. It was really nice to see familiar faces again, especially my dear X-Its (Jane, Derrick, Matiin, Albert etc). Sooo miss F.O. Camp. I have pics from it, I’ll talk more about it when I post them up.

Second was the SP Open House. It was meant for secondary school students to learn more about the courses available and entice them to apply for direct admission in the new DAE (Direct Admissions Exercise) thing they have. I think it works a lot like how you apply directly to Universities for a place. With this new DAE, secondary school students can apply for a place in the school even before the ‘O’-level results are out.

So anyway, the Open House was for a few days. I did a few songs for the first day and only messed up one (though it wasn’t that noticeable). I didn’t perform the second day but I went for the ice cream, hehe. By rights current students aren’t supposed to take it but they had a lot and someone just gave me one when I walked past so… Hum de dum.

The third day, we had to set up earlier so I headed to school at the time I was told. I was the only one from the club who turned up so early (no point anyway, the guy opened the room late). It also happened to be raining so I decided to wait a bit. Wei Ni arrived half an hour after I did so we decided to try moving the equipment (the guys were ALL LATE). Good thing we ran into AJ (he had duty that day) and he helped us shift the stupidly heavy speakers.

By the time we started, it had stopped raining. I played a few more songs than the first day. I was feeling super happy that day since I managed to get another ice cream (Cornetto - Black Forest Magic, tastes super nice). Ying Liang got two ice creams for us girls, then went back to get another couple for himself and Farhan. He came back holding his own in one hand and the other hidden under his shirt. Haha.

I hope the speakers are still in good condition. We had to disconnect one because it was giving out white smoke halfway through the performance. Not to mention they got knocked around a bit when we were shifting them back.

On the way back to the clubroom, we grabbed some leftover food from the buffet, mini cheesecakes and fruit pastries, plus some really sweet chwee kuay. It turned out that only a few of us stayed back to eat the food since the rest were more eager to head home. Oh well, more for us.

A very nice end to the week, I’d say. It’s put me in a pretty good mood.

I’ll have pics (and maybe some videos) up soon!
